Catastrophe
Short biography
Catastrophe was formed in 2001 when Niko Karinen (guitar) and Henri Heikka (keyboards) teamed up with Sami Järvinen (bass), Mika Kauppinen (drums), and Simo Järvinen (vocals) to play some metal together. In January 2003, after practicing tons of covers and finally composing some material of their own, Catastrophe's first demo Broken was released.
After Broken, guitarist Juho Rikberg joined the band and they started doing gigs. The first gig was on 25th of April, 2003 at Haukipudas.
The second demo A Bleak Ending was released in early 2004. It introduced a more progressive side of Catastrophe. In early 2005, Rikberg left the band.
It wasn't until 2005's Blankness that they really found their musical style, basing their songs on the contrast between straight forward heavy parts and melodic choruses. Janne Riikola joined as second guitarist in June 2005, around the time they started composing new material for their newest demo Burden in Me.
Burden in Me was released in April 2006 and it features one new song and re-recorded versions of two old songs. Again, Catastrophe has taken one more step into more original, diverse and mature music.
